Sustainability

Indigo dyeing is considered to be one of the most sustainable dyeing practices. It also is the most loved, amongst patrons who fondly cherish this colour as ‘blue gold’ What makes it completely organic is the fact that it :

  • Is plant-based and renewable. Unlike synthetic dyes, which rely on petrochemicals, pure Indigo dye is biodegradable and non-toxic.
  • Causes zero water pollution. The waste water from pure Indigo dyeing is generally safe for the environment.
  • Consumes low energy. The process of extracting and dyeing with natural indigo is less energy-intensive than the production of synthetic dyes.
  • Enriches soil. Indigo plants are grown by fixing nitrogen, which improves soil fertility. This makes Indigo cultivation beneficial for crop rotation systems.

Textiles dyed with natural indigo tend to age gracefully, developing a beautiful patina over time. This longevity reduces the need for frequent replacement, contributing to a slow fashion approach, which helps curb the environmental impacts of fast fashion.

FAQ's

When will I receive my order?

For orders placed in Maharashtra, we take 3 to 5 working days. For orders outside Maharashtra, we take 5 to 7 working days. In cases of further delays, you would be informed via WhatsApp.

Is express shipping available?

Yes, at an additional cost of INR 250-300 and for prepaid orders only.

Why does the colour of the bag look faded/patchy?

We do not use chemical colour fasteners in any of our natural dyeing production processes. Hence the faded look. We believe in retaining the natural essence of the dye, just the way nature intended! Rest assured, it does not hamper the quality of the bag or its long term usage.

What fits in the bag?

Everyday small items - phone, purse/wallet, keys, card-holder, cash, makeup, etc. Sturdy mesh outer pocket available too.

What’s the durability of the bags?

The bag is made to last 1+ years of everyday usage.

How do I know pure Indigo dye is used?

Identifying pure indigo dye can be a bit tricky, especially with the prevalence of synthetic alternatives. However, there are several characteristics and methods that can help determine whether indigo is authentic:

  • Unlike synthetic dyes, natural indigo fades gradually over time, developing a patina rather than losing its colour entirely.
  • Pure indigo produces a distinctive, rich blue colour that has a natural depth and variation, often slightly uneven due to the hand-dyeing process.
  • The colour also fades gradually over time, and the colour fades evenly rather than patchily. You can gently rub the fabric with a damp cloth—if the colour transfers lightly, it may be pure indigo. Synthetic dyes tend to either not fade at all or lose colour too quickly.
